Delivering 50 MVA in Record Time

August 18, 2025

Client Challenge
A customer needed a 50 MVA transformer (22,860 Delta to 12,470 Y / 7,200) and they needed it fast. The timeline was razor-thin, and the stakes were high. This wasn’t a situation where “standard lead time” was going to cut it.

Finding the Solution
We combed through our inventory and identified a unit originally rated 42/56/70 MVA – 26,400 Delta to 13,800 Y / 7,970 that could be re-rated to meet the customer’s exact specifications.

Under normal circumstances, reconditioning a transformer of this size would take 10–12 weeks. But this wasn’t normal circumstances. Our Rental Division and Field Service team teamed up, starting with preliminary field testing to confirm the unit’s viability before it even hit the shop floor.

Execution Under Pressure
Once testing confirmed the go-ahead, our team processed the oil, completed a full regasketing, and got the unit ready for shipment — all on schedule.

To meet the delivery window, we worked with a trucking broker to pull off something rarely done: moving a nearly 100,000-pound, 13’ 9”-high permitted load across state lines in under 48 hours. The solution? A team driving approach that kept the load moving almost nonstop.

The Result
The transformer was delivered to site on time, fully dressed, and successfully energized. What began as an extremely tight turnaround became a textbook example of what was possible when expertise, collaboration, and urgency aligned.
