What is the difference between a dry-type transformer v. an oil-filled / wet-type transformer? Which do I need?

October 27, 2021

You can use dry-type transformers can both outdoors and indoors, as ventilation regulates their temperature as opposed to oil. Within dry-type transformers, there are three variations:

  • Ventilated, which uses fan assistance to achieve proper circulation
  • Encapsulated, which uses insulating materials like gravel, sand, epoxy, or resin to properly displace heat
  • And non-ventilated, which is most appropriate for specific applications in which the surrounding atmosphere may contain conductive or combustible materials that would otherwise damage the transformer as it emits heat.

If you need assistance determining the specifications for your dry-type transformer, our team is here to help. Simply contact us and we can help you determine the right equipment for your unique needs.
