When calamity strikes and the immediate crisis is resolved, the task of repairing the damage falls into the hands of restoration companies. In the aftermath of fires, floods, and other disasters, these companies are enlisted to restore a facility to its former state or even enhance it while fixing what the catastrophe has wrought.
Invariably, wherever a restoration company operates, there is a high likelihood that they will require temporary power to operate their specialized equipment.
Such was the scenario at a prominent hotel brand in Florida recently, where flooding from Hurricane Ian wreaked havoc on a prominent hotel in Fort Meyers.
Here’s how Sunbelt Solomon supported the restoration service company entrusted with restoring the hotel to a guest-ready condition.
The Client:
With a skilled workforce and an extensive equipment fleet, this specialty services company acts as a subcontractor, discreetly aiding other contractors in their property restoration projects, without any logos or identifying markers. This discreet approach has enhanced the capabilities and reputations of contractors across the USA.
The Challenge:
When a burst pipe on the top floor of an Ontario hotel caused extensive damage, our client was brought in to support the restoration efforts by supplying heaters to rapidly dry the affected areas. The challenge? The heaters required power, and the damage had affected all six floors.
To provide power to their 480V and 120V heaters dispersed throughout the building from four separate generators, they needed to swiftly design and mobilize a sophisticated distribution system.
Having collaborated with Sunbelt Solomon on projects in British Columbia and Alberta previously, our client had confidence that we would not only meet the challenge but also deliver excellent results.
Our Approach:
This project exemplified Sunbelt Solomon’s “high-touch, high-care” approach to client support. While our client provided the heaters and generators, we managed everything in between.
Collaborating closely with the client, the Sunbelt Solomon team addressed the logistics of powering multiple machines across various floors, designing a system that adeptly navigated these challenges to ensure the project’s objectives were achieved as efficiently as possible.
Sunbelt Solomon supplied two 1200A I-line panels with a total of six 250A breakers, with each breaker powering one of the 480V 150kW heaters spread throughout the building.
Additionally, we provided a 400A 208V panel, a 200A 208V panel, and a 1200A I-line panel equipped with 50A breakers. These panels were used to supply twenty-four 50A spider boxes strategically placed to power numerous smaller heaters as well as lighting.
The Result:
Thanks to Sunbelt Solomon’s swift mobilization and expert power distribution solution, the restoration company could efficiently deploy their equipment and begin the drying process across the hotel’s six floors. The custom-tailored power setup allowed the client to operate both the 480V and 120V heaters simultaneously, significantly speeding up the drying process and minimizing downtime for the hotel.
